Neoliberalism will Fail to Defeat Donald Trump

In the 2016 election cycle, Hillary Clinton ran a campaign that was based on pragmatism, centrism, pseudo progressivism, and neoliberalism. A campaign that employed empty slogans, such as “breaking the barriers” and “stronger together”, instead of focusing on the real issues and policy substance that the American people so desperately need to hear. While this sort of triangulation by the Clintons did very well and succeeded with Bill Clinton’s election, times have changed and the people are not only tired of the establishment failing to pass legislation that benefits the American people, but they also want a revolution to make the political system for the American people.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, decided to run a populist campaign in which he made a strong appeal to the rural working class of America massively affected by globalization of the economy and jobs being shipped overseas. Of course his promises of not outsourcing jobs and focusing on the working people, as well as not cutting medicare or medicaid, are lies. Donald Trump outsourced his own jobs and scammed Americans with Trump University. Unfortunately, his constituency is not aware of these facts or are simply deniers. The difference between the two is that, while both Clinton and Trump benefited from plans like NAFTA, Trump decided to make his message that he did not approve. This populist message resonated with many Americans because of the massive struggle that they are currently facing with wages being stagnant, jobs being outsourced, and increasing costs of living.

Hillary Clinton failed to defeat one of the most disliked candidates in history, Donald Trump, in one of the biggest upsets in political history. The states that are victims of outsourced jobs, the rust belt states, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, all voted Trump. The American people fell for the lies of Donald Trump; he will not care about the American workers, but there was a candidate who actually supports the workers.

Bernie Sanders, who ran his campaign on policy substance such as stopping the TPP, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, and stopping countries from shipping jobs overseas. He ran a campaign that was based upon policy that bettered the lives of American people and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) did everything they could to stop it to continue the establishment and Clinton machine. The DNC leaks exposed the flaws of our “democracy” and the clear breaking of rules in the charter of the DNC. He ran a populist campaign, but with all of the establishment and DNC rigging it was impossible for him to win in the “democratic” election. According to RealClearPolitics, the average spread is Sanders +10.4 in a general election poll.

Neoliberalism may have been the trend of the Bill Clinton era, however with the internet and better evaluation of the government and congress, it is quite clear that the politicians are not fighting for the American people, but instead the corporate donors. Neoliberalism will absolutely fail to combat the horrific monster that is Donald Trump, because it does not truly cater to the American people’s concerns and problems and challenges they are faced with today. They are seeking ideologies and politicians that are different, who promise hope and change, which was Obama in 2008, and now Trump in 2016. Progressivism must be embraced and Neoliberalism must be abolished; it will not win any elections because it is not what is truly seeking to help the American people. Neoliberalism does not truly pursue policy and legislation that benefits the American working class. The American people are tired of the centrism and triangulation by Democrats and pseudo progressives who vote for wars that kill tens of thousands of civilians and a law that gives the government the ability to massively spy on the citizens, which absolutely rips up the Constitution to shreds. Neoliberalism is a failed ideology that has no place in 2017.
