A general strike is planned for Friday, February 17, 2017. Among the organizations planning events on February 17 is Strike4Democracy, which has over 100 events planned. Two lists of events, one generated by registering events with them, and another made via crowdsourcing, can be found on a dedicated page on their website.
A collective of 25 legal organizations will also be showing solidarity with the many movements forming to oppose the administration of Donald Trump. Planned by the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) and meant to coordinate with the general strike, lawyers, law professors and others will show up outside of courthouses throughout the country at 1 pm Eastern time on February 17.
On their website, Strike4Democracy states that the general strike is meant to “plan for a series of mass strikes to stand up for America’s democratic principles…The first mass strike is planned on March 8, organized by International Women’s Day and The Women’s March. We also anticipate strikes on May Day and a heightening resistance throughout the summer.” Indeed, International Women’s Day is already planning in advance for events to be held on March 8, 2017.
