This is actually several announcements in one. The very first thing I would like to do is thank you — the reader. You have inspired me to keep pushing no matter how dark things got. I hope my writing reciprocated this feeling in some way. You are why I kept at this.
I have been through a lot of personal ups and downs since the DNC Primary. The downs have been particularly brutal. I have often felt defeated and I have to disengage. Much of its stems from the Dem-driven narrative, gleefully picked up by the mainstream media. The line of thinking that blames everyone for President Trump except the people responsible. The media gave the Trump campaign $4.6 billion dollars in free media. The Clintons and DNC may have run the worst presidential campaign in the modern era. But, it’s all Russia and bad voters, all day.
I am all for undermining Trump’s legitimacy and locking up any wrongdoers. That is where it ends for me. The focus needs to be on policy solutions to help Americans and building winning coalitions for 2018 and beyond. The Dems are simply not up to the task.
More importantly, the people that got all of this 100% wrong are still in the media telling people that were right how to politic. What the absolute F*CK!?! We told you over and over again to right the ship. We were ignored. Now they call us Russian agents and try to marginalize progressive voices and policy.
“What are WE going to do?”
Like Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins in the “The Edge,” it boils down to what we can do to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds with meager resources. I’ve been simmering for a while. But, the recent incident with Nina Turner and the Ohio Dems has me boiling. It has moved up the timetable on some things that have been in the works for a while.
Michael Redwine from the Progressive Army and Louisa Project 2027 has started a publishing company — TBXL Books. He has asked me to run an imprint under the TBXL banner called Progressive Uplift to publish progressive books and manage an eventual blog. Both sites are currently being developed. But, please click on over and leave your contact info so that we can keep you posted as things move forward.
This is the part where I get nervous. The first book to be released will be a collection of my essays from the Democratic Primary — Our Bernie Sanders: Writing Revolution Vol 1. It will be published on April 4, 2017. It is up for presale now. It is the first in a series of books highlighting people that wanted our nation to be in a better place and Bernie was the man to lead us there.
Note: If you are a writer or editor and would like to be part of this project, please contact me. If you think you want to give writing a shot or just want to help, do not hesitate to DM me. All writers are welcome! No matter the genre. We have a Sweat Equity model that may be the fairest in this business. I am really looking forward to hearing from you!
Progressive Uplift will also be the home of Tankish. There we will concentrate on giving Progressives the language to take the movement forward.
Supporting What You Believe In
We have decided that a portion of the proceeds from everything that we publish at Progressive Uplift and TBXL Books should support the Progressive Movement. I have selected six organization that will receive funds. Because you are family, allow me to explain why I chose each.
This is my Family. Ben Dixon and David Grossman, along with the rest of the crew, came into my life when I was losing friends daily because I supported Bernie. Everyone is, and was, so kind and supportive. They gave me a political home when I needed it most. I will never forget that. They are also some of the smartest people I know.
Michael Salamone is truly one of the finest human beings I have met in my entire life. He is so giving of his time, energy, creativity, and intellect. I am honored to call him my friend. He is working so hard and is awesome at what he does. He has built a great platform. If you are interested in podcasting, please contact him.
Senator Nina Turner, Dr. Cornel West, Killer Mike, and Anoa Changa. Do I really need to go on? Don’t worry, I will continue. It is not often an organization is lead by people with this type of track record of integrity and compassion. They had me at Hello. They are going into communities that Chris Hedges would term as sacrifice zones. These communities are nearly in complete economic and social collapse. They are going to train the local people to reconnect with politics and empower their neighbors. That is a worthy endeavor by amazing people. Anoa is my Sister. She is in, I am in. That simple.
Progressive Independent Party
Araquel Bloss and her team are talking the talk and walking the walk. They have put together an amazing, inclusive national organization. It is truly remarkable. If you are not familiar with what they are doing, I urge you to hit that link and check them out. I am honored to call Araquel my friend, as well. They deserve all the support we can muster.
LEAP is a brand new organization in New York City. My friend Natalie Holme Elsberg took it upon herself to initiate the creation of a Progressive Legislation organization. My buddy Esha Krishnaswamy is a lawyer and she is also helping. She likes to call them Smart-ALEC. Anoa is over there, too. She is tireless. I will do whatever I can to support.
I have been a fan of the Young Turks for a long time. I also really enjoy Kyle Kulinski’s Secular Talk. I don’t know anyone over there personally and they probably don’t need the funds. TYT is a fundraising juggernaut. As many of you know, I believe that it will require internal and external pressure to get the Democratic Party to change. This is the only feasible choice, in the short term. I believe the Justice Dems can be the greatest force for peaceful internal pressure that we have seen in American political history. I have to support that. Plus, the thought of smug Dems being sent home and replaced by real progressives is something I cannot turn away from. #IAmPetty
Putting It All Together
The goal is to build a large portfolio of quality material to support these projects. We may not sell one book. But, we will damn sure try and that matters. If you are a writer and want to raise funds for an organization of your choice, give me a shout. Many hands make light work.
Thanks for listening! See you soon!
