Bridge Collapse in Kolkuta, India

Builders state that collapse was an "Act of God"

The number of the injured is still climbing as rescue teams fight desperately to assist those still trapped in the rubble in the aftermath of the Flyover Bridge, that collapsed, in Kolkata (Calcutta), India hours ago. The video below captures the very moment that the bridge gave way.

Reports state that the bridge was years overdue on completion, its construction has been underway since 2009 and Adhir Chowdhury, a representative of the Berhampore constituency of West Bengal and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party, is calling for the arrest of the Sovan Chatterjee, of the All India Trinamool Congress, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Washington, D.C. earlier this morning for a two-day nuclear security summit.

The construction company responsible for building the bridge state that this was nothing but an “act of God” and that at this time there is no reason to believe that this is related to any failure of quality or process of their company.

It has already been reported that the government has declared compensation for the victims and a list of help numbers provided for those needing to reach out to obtain services.
