Interview w/ Kingsley Hayford on Sports Innovation
The Untold Story of the Transformation of European Basketball
This is an interview with one of the most amazing people I know. He is a dynamo that never seems to run out of energy and is always firing on all cylinders. He merged his love for basketball with his passion to help and educate young people.
He started riding around the beautiful city of Maastricht in the Netherlands on a bike with a mesh bag of basketballs on his back had in the 90s. Riding from school-to-school introducing kids to the sport of basketball during gym classes. He set up 3-on-3 tournaments throughout the city. The city had to install basketball courts around town to keep up with the demand.
His “little project” morphed into in-school classes, after school programs, and a feeder program for participating basketball clubs. Over ten years he introduced tens of thousands of young people to the game. Eventually, his program was duplicated all over the Netherlands and on to many other places in Europe. The amount of people impacted by his efforts are likely incalculable.
Here we have a chance to give this unsung hero his due respect. Watch/listen and enjoy!
