Bernie Sanders has become the defacto leader of the Democratic Party, and he has been a very outspoken critic of President Donald Trump. Sanders constantly attacks Trump for his rhetoric and policies, often making humorous criticisms.
Bernie Sanders also debated Republican Ted Cruz on the topic of Obamacare, a piece of legislation that Sanders has been the leader in defending.
Sanders has had a lot of criticism for the Democratic Party recently, as the Democrats have control of virtually no levels of government. The Democrats have a minority in the House, the senate, and the President is Republican.
The Democratic Party under the control of DNC head Debbie Wasserman Schultz proved to be very unproductive and did not provide results. Former Senate minority leader Harry Reid himself said: “I believe one of the failures of Democratic Party has been the Democratic National Committee, the DNC, has been worthless,”
Senator Sanders went after the Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee for their failed efforts to win any of the levels of government, “The truth is, and I think anyone who objectively assesses the situation has to appreciate, that the model the Democrats have followed for the last 10 to 20 years has been an ultimate failure,” he said in an interview. “That’s just the objective evidence. We are taking on a right-wing extremist party whose agenda is opposed time after time and on issue after issue by the vast majority of the American people. Yet we have lost the White House, the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate, almost two-thirds of the governors’ chairs and close to 900 legislative seats across this country. How can anyone not conclude that the Democratic agenda and approach has been a failure?” Sanders continued.
Sanders’ criticisms are hard to argue against, considering that the numbers are on his side. It’s very hard to argue that the Democratic Party and the DNC’s strategy to win seats has not failed, considering that the Democrats have control of zero levels of government, and in some are getting beat out quite hard.
The future for the Democratic Party may be a bit gloomy, in 2018, there are 21 Democrats and 2 Independents who caucus with Democrats running for re-election, while there are only 9 Republican incumbents running for re-election.
The Democratic Party will need a much better plan put in place by the DNC in order to be able to gain seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate, a plan that will be able to attract voters all around the country.
