I hate talking about it, because your person lost, but here goes. Clinton has just reopened wounds from the 2016 election that hasn’t healed. Her book is an attempt, albeit a pathetic one, to rewrite history. So far from excerpts alone, all of the things that “happened” have been disproven with ease.
Instead of taking the onus on her second very poorly run Presidential bid, she chose to cast blame. Literally, her campaign lost white women, who would be affected by the same horrible right-wing policies that disproportionately affect women of color. White women voted for Trump by a margin of 53%-43%, but the campaign didn’t call them out because it didn’t fit with the “Bernie Bro” narrative.
She even had the audacity to blame “millennial feminists” for her loss and some of her surrogates claimed it “was to chase men”. And for the record, millennial feminists are my favorite feminists. They believe in intersectional feminism and demand that all women get the rights that they more than deserve. They realize that WOC have it worse than white women and fight that brave fight every day. I proudly stand with them, they fight for equality, not men’s attention.
Instead of looking inward at her failed neoliberal economic policy, her sketchy past with her same-sex marriage position, or her overt war hawk foreign policy that led to disasters in Libya and Honduras, her loss apparently, was only because of her genitalia.
Clinton and her supporters single-handily shredded the Democrat Party with their disdain and incrementalism. They blame Sen. Bernie Sanders and his supporters of handing the election and moniker of “Crooked Hillary” to Trump. Little do they want you to remember that Trump used that during the primaries of 2016 and neither Sanders or his followers coined the term.
“Crooked Hillary” has been around a lot longer than 2016 and it wasn’t the phrase that caused people to question Clinton’s integrity. That ship sailed on deals like Whitewater or the hiring of private investigators to sully the reputations of women that claimed Bill Clinton sexually assaulted them in the 90’s. Her vote for the Iraq war, her stance against gay marriage, her policies that stunk to high heaven of being tied to Wall St (think bankruptcy bill), and her racist attacks on President Obama during the 2008 Democratic primaries cemented her nefarious moniker.
What Clinton and her 8%’ers want to do is to ensure that a Progressive doesn’t take the reins of a failed Democrat Party and nurse it back to health with policies that actually help the people and not the donor class. Why else would she not only rehash her failed campaign, but then rewrite history to literally blame everyone else but the actual person at fault?
It wasn’t Bernie, Bernie Bros, millennial feminists, but Hillary Rodham Clinton failing to campaign in states like Wisconsin and Michigan, where polling data showed Trump gaining or moving ahead. It was SOS Clinton’s failure to unify instead of using failed identity politics. It was the arrogance of forcing people into a bad choice: the “giant douche” or the “turd sandwich”.
At the end of the day, Clinton lost because she was one-half of the two worst candidates for POTUS in our history. What we must do is ignore the drama of Clinton and her supporters, and instead, focus on bringing progressive policies to the forefront. Our policies of fighting for all people regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or anything else used by elites to divide us, must win. Clinton had her forty years in the sun and she must rightfully take her place in history: a twice failed POTUS candidate, nothing more.
